Developed in early 2025 and completed in 2026, as the culmination of his Master’s Degree in Cinema & Audiovisual, What Lasts is far more than an academic milestone.
It is the raw product of an intense, independent production cycle where Alessandro took on the triple responsibility of writer, director, and producer.Navigating the high-pressure reality of independent filmmaking, the project demanded complete dedication, filtering personal artistic anxieties into a rigorous professional workflow.
Spanning an intensive 18-month development timeline, What Lasts relied on rigorous pre-production focused on visual and historical accuracy. Alessandro collaborated with American actors Nicholas Scott Redding and John Kellam (Flags of Our Fathers), balancing practical character preparation with detailed costume design and meticulous scouting.

This extensive groundwork culminated in a demanding, disciplined five-day shoot, with a talented and young crew, deep within the woods of the Casentino National Park, where the rugged natural environment served as a crucial narrative element.
The post-production phase was a collaborative effort involving a team of talented professionals. While Alessandro personally took charge of the sound design, he worked alongside other skilled creators to complete What Lasts. The project’s identity was further elevated by the collaboration with Canadian composer Alexandre Roche, creating the original score of What Lasts.
